Sunday May 14 - Ottawa to Sault Ste Marie

We are now in unexplored terrain for both Norah and me. We stayed on Hwy 17 the whole way. Something around 900 km to Sault Ste. Marie. A bit of a long drive but the traffic, weather and road were all pretty good and it felt fresh. The first hour or two is still in the Ottawa Valley. Deep River is the location of the picture of Elly and Kaila, and also where the ducks were. Impressive Pine trees all along a nice community shoreline. Black flies were thick at a later stop looking over Lake Nipissing. You can kind of tell the forest is a little stressed around Sudbury, but it’s not quite the moonscape of older tales. I never appreciated how big this “North Shore” is. By North Shore I mean the north shore of Lake Huron and it runs something around 300 km from wherever you’d say it starts east of Manitoulin Island in Georgian Bay to the Soo. More farmland than I’d thought and, of course rocks, trees and waterrrrrrr.
